Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do you accept insurance?

Lindsay O’Reilly Nutrition does not accept insurance and would, therefore, be considered out of network. You are welcome to call your insurance company and ask about coverage for nutrition services. For nutrition counseling, ask whether your policy covers telehealth (virtual healthcare, via phone or video chat). The code for telehealth is 98968. Also, ask how many visits your policy covers for Medical Nutrition Therapy or nutrition counseling. They may cover a certain number of visits related to a medical diagnosis and may offer another number of visits for preventive nutrition counseling, so ask about both. The code for nutrition counseling is 97802.

  2. What is functional nutrition?

Functional nutrition is the practice of considering every aspect of one’s health, diet, and overall lifestyle when providing nutrition recommendations. With functional nutrition, symptoms are seen as clues for assessing your primary health problems, whether they are related to diet, illnesses, medications, lifestyle factors, exposure to toxins, antibiotic use, or other factors.

  3. Do you provide meal plans?

Meal plans are not included in my services because I believe in listening to your body, using hunger cues, and eating food that nourishes you and that you enjoy at the same time. Meal plans don’t work long term and I want to help you learn how to develop a sustainable eating plan that feels good to you.

  4. Why should I work with you when I can find the information myself?

There is so much information out there! As a registered dietitian, I can help you make sense of it all and give you individualized recommendations based on research and experience. Yes, of course you can do things on your own but doing a google search and using a “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work. I can be your guide, your sleuth and your cheerleader providing you the help and support you won’t otherwise get.

  5. How long have you been doing this?

I have been a dietitian since 2005. I started my private practice in 2018.

  6. Why are you interested in thyroid health?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2016. I was given no information from my doctor on what the diagnosis meant or how to take my medication. I worked to find answers and information to better care for myself and my condition and I’m passionate about helping others do the same. I find that thyroid health is an area where women (and men) don’t get the information and care they need to heal and decrease symptoms. They are often disregarded or pushed away because of a lab number. I know that nutrition and lifestyle can make a big difference in the lives of thyroid sufferers.

  7. What types of payments do you accept?

Payment forms accepted include debit, credit or HSA card. If we are meeting in person, cash or check is accepted as well.

  8. Where is your office located?

I provide virtual services for clients in the US that are HIPAA compliant and can be done from the comfort of your own home. In-person sessions are offered 2 days a week at my office located near College Boulevard and Nall in Leawood, Kansas.
